Exercising on your Period.

Updated: Aug 9, 2019

Hi everyone, I know it's been a while since I have made a blog post, but fortunately inspiration struck me for this week's post. Today I want to talk about something that all high school students who get their period have had to deal with: going to a gym class while on your period. If you're like me, you may have even gotten your period while already in class and had to do the old "toilet paper as a pad" trick until class was over or you could ask a friend. A lot of the time, when you're on your period you are already feeling sore, tired, or just gross in general, so getting all sweaty doesn't usually sound like the best option for you. Today, I will be discussing how exercise on your period can actually be beneficial, as well as some tips that might make you feel a bit less miserable when it comes to phy ed or other physical activities you must do.

1. Believe it or not, exercising can help with cramps! If your menstrual cramps aren't leaving you immobilized (it happens to the best of us), instead of hitting the painkillers, try hitting the gym! Getting up and getting active can help to relax your muscles and make those annoying cramps more bearable. It also raises your endorphins, which are natural painkillers in your brain!

2. Drink lots of water! It's important to stay hydrated when you're working out no matter what, but it can be especially important when you need a pick me up from exhaustion or pain.

3. Stay in your comfort zone! (As much as you can). If you don't want to wear those fancy sports tampons you see in all the commercials when you're running, then don't! Don't try to go way out of your comfort zone just because you have to go to gym class for a few days. Now, I'm not saying to completely walk the mile or not participate at all, but try not to push yourself too hard. More exhaustion will not be good for your body or mind.

That's all I have for today! Please feel free to discuss your own feelings or tips on this topic in the comments below! Thank you for reading!
